Ideas I've Had That Ended Up Not Working Out - The Cheese Map

A few years back I decided that I wanted to learn how to say the word "cheese" in as many languages as possible.  I figured since I travel a bit, and I have lots of friends from all over the world,  it wouldn't be that hard.  The problem I have is my ability to remember languages, even a single word, so I kept forgetting how to say and spell it when people tell me.  I decided that I would create a Google map with markers in the countries where I could safely say cheese.  While it was fun to make at first, no one really understands why I do it, and often just refer me to Google translate.  I haven't really added any new translations in a while, probably because I keep forgetting how to spell the word when people tell me at social events.

You can check out the map here.

Ideas I've Had That Ended Up Not Working Out - Facebook Groups-a-Plenty

In my life I've created a few Facebook groups that really didn't amount to anything.  Some I figured wouldn't, in particular the group I created called "My Own Group" where I wouldn't let anybody else join ever.  Here are three other groups I've created that pretty much fell flat.
"Chris by himself in a really big room."  This is a Facebook group where I collected photographs of me, alone in really big rooms.  I'll be honest, I still ad a photo now and then to this group, but I haven't been alone in a big room for a while.
The dumbest idea I've ever had for a group, and least clever, was "Don't You Hate It When You Have a Really Clever Idea for a Facebook Group, but Someone has Already Started It."  All I can say about this page is I'm not 100% sure if I was the first to come up with this idea.  That's comforting, at least I know there are other idiots on the internet.
The last group I created after having some plumbing problems at my house.  "My Hatred Of Toilets Knows No Bounds" is true, I don't like toilets.  I find they often don't work well when you need them to, and most of them scare me.

How Does One Relax?

I've come to realize I don't really know how to relax.  I can't seem to find that place between doing something and being bored.  I get up, I have ideas, things I want to do, then I go to sleep.  If I'm not doing things, I'm thinking about doing things, and wondering why I'm not doing that thing right now.

New Waterproof Camera

We just recieved our new Fuji waterproof camera.  This was the first photo we took with it under water.  Look at how clear all of the gunk floating in the kitchen sink came out.

Art I'm Working On - Help Is Great

One thing that always amazes me when I make a piece of art is the help I get.  Most notably the amount of help I get, and the people who help me.  I have some great friends, some are creative types, others have not discovered their creative side yet, but all of them really encourage me and my art.  Sometimes, when I'm having trouble with one of my pieces (like the spreads piece I'm working on now), I use social media to ask my friends if then can help.  I have yet to have one of my calls for help to be ignored, and most often the help comes from those who I would have never expected.  I don't hate the people in my life who don't offer me help with my art projects, you guys do give me inspiration, you just don't know it.  I do however want to give a special thank you to all of those people who lend a helping hand when I need it.

Art I'm Working On - Knife Problem

Throughout designing my latest art piece that examines spreadable foods, I've had a problem.  I felt that adding a real knife to a portion of the piece would help sell the basic idea, but I was afraid.  I have another piece called "One Teaspoon of Rice" where I've attached a spoon.  I'm worried that I'll be known as the guy that attaches cutlery to his canvases.  I'll just wait for the first person to approach me and ask when I plan to build my "fork" piece.  Since food is a regular, but not constant, theme in my pieces, it only makes sense that cutlery would make an appearance, I just don't want it to be a theme.

Art I'm Finished - Marching Back

I just finished my latest piece for my collection called "From Stone".

The piece is a look at a tradition in modern Greece, as it marches back more than a thousand years.

Traveling to New Zealand and Australia...

Allison and I are planning a trip to New Zealand and Australia.  I'm going to be searching the internet for tips to keep me from being eaten, stung, or poisoned by anything that we might come across.  Any other tips are generously excepted.

Art I'm Working On - Book About Adults

It's been a while since I've updated this blog with my art work projects, particularly works in progress.  As it turns out, I have 3 very large art projects and one small silly one on the go right now.  I'm going to spend the next few days updating you on my progress with each project.
The small silly project is all about this guy.  A few years ago I sketch out a funny little book idea with instructions on how to be an adult.  I thought about working on it since, but haven't really had the time.  I've decided once again to give it a shot and put together a pitch.  I figure, since I now have a literary agent, maybe something could come of this.  I've also been inspired for a few sequel ideas as well.

Art I'm Working On - Burnt Marshmallow

It's been a while since I've updated this blog with my art work projects, particularly works in progress.  As it turns out, I have 3 very large art projects and one small silly one on the go right now.  I'm going to spend the next few days updating you on my progress with each project.
This piece is for my series called "Senses".  It explores the wondrous texture that comes from marshmallows.  I've been updating the Candy Critic Blog regularly with its progress.  So far I've had to slow down on it a little because of the work on the other two pieces.  I'm also a little confused as to how I'm going to simulate melted marshmallow.

Allison, breaking some rules.
I'm not really sure what this bit of graffiti is trying to say.
This was one of the only signs I've ever seen with the words "Ye Olde" used and it wasn't a joke.

Art I'm Working On - Slices

It's been a while since I've updated this blog with my art work projects, particularly works in progress.  As it turns out, I have 3 very large art projects and one small silly one on the go right now.  I'm going to spend the next few days updating you on my progress with each project.
This is a sketch I drew a few months back.  The concept is to celebrate the many textures and colours of things you spread on bread.  It's for my series called "Senses".
Since drawing the sketch, I've started to collect all different kinds of spreads from all over the world.  I've photographed them, eaten them, and the piece is starting to come together.  I still need to find a photograph a few more spreads, but I think I should be able to find enough.
This is the start of the spreaded edge, it needs a little more work, but i'm pretty happy with it.

Art I'm Working On - Ancient Greek Pottery

It's been a while since I've updated this blog with my art work projects, particularly works in progress.  As it turns out, I have 3 very large art projects and one small silly one on the go right now.  I'm going to spend the next few days updating you on my progress with each project.
The first project I wanted to talk about is a special piece for my series "From Stone". Normally pieces in this series consist of a photograph of a statue where I ad some life to the sculpture using watercolour.  In this case however I'm turning the series around, and I'm taking a photograph of a scene in Athens present, and turning into an ancient piece of Greek art.  So far the piece is looking great, and all that's left to do is mount it in a way that will show it off properly.

I Burned My Finger Today...

I Don't think I've ever had a burn this bad in my entire life.  I've had bigger, but not as bad.  As I write this with one and a half hands more than an hour after burning my finger, it still hurts like hell.  I ran it under cold water for a while after I burnt it, and the sticky stuff on it is some kind of antibacterial cream.  Every once in a while it stings so bad that I feel like I'm going to barf.  Why can we send people into space, explore the bottom of the ocean, and fly for thousands of kilometers, but we still can't kill pain without side effects?

My Own Sandwich Just Gave Me a Fright...

I made my sandwich several days ago.  I thought it was a simple chicken salad sandwich.  I forgot that I put a slice of processed cheese on it.  When I bit into it, I couldn't figure out why my chicken salad was smooth and orange.  I jumped a little.

Tech Problems - RSS For Facebook

I'm trying to set up RSS feeds for Facebook, and it appears that Facebook wants nothing to do with that.  All I want to do is let my friend and family know when I post on this blog.  Writing a blog makes it easier for me to collect my thoughts than the simple updates I get in Facebook.  It also allows me to upload pictures with text, something Facebook doesn't really do well at all.  I also wanted to have my blog posts from the Candy Critic blog, go to my Candy Critic Facebook page.  It all seems easier that way.

I feel a twinge of guilt doing this, am I spamming people?  I don't think I am, I'm just giving them the content I make, they don't have to buy anything, and I'm more than happy about them ignoring the posts.
