Kinds of Public Bathrooms?

There are really three major categories of public bathrooms that I put on my map.  There are public public bathrooms, the kind you find in a park, or in a museum.  These often do not require you to purchase anything.  There are bathroom in public business', such as hotels and restaurants. Then there are kind of public bathrooms, and those are the kind you find in your hotel room.  The most common on the map appear to be the public business bathrooms, but the nicest are the private public bathrooms.

Signs I Like

Poor little raccoon, he just wants to be pet.
If you want to open a coffee shop called "SW" that's fine, but for god sake think before you decide to start serving food!

Another Bathroom

One of the things I love most of all about different bathrooms is the tiles that are chosen.  I always wonder why they choose one pattern over another.

Cooler Than Folding Paper?... Unfolding Paper

Flottille (detail) from Etienne Cliquet on Vimeo.
I started watching this video thinking I would only check out a few seconds of it.  I ended up watching the entire thing in a trance like state, wanting more at the end.

I Like Scott Thompson

For some reason over the last year or so I've been on a Scott Thompson kick.  I listen to this podcast regularly, I like checking out his old KITH bits, and I just generally find what he's been doing as of late to be kind of interesting.

Check out his podcast if you haven't already.

Evolution of WB Animation

I'm not sure what I like more about this movie.  Watching the evolution of Warner Brothers cartoons, or listening to the many versions of "Merry-go-round Broke Down".

Signs I Like

Most specific museum I've ever seen.
Can you guess the name of this bar?
I've recently come across a lot of trees eating signs.
It freaks me out a little.

It's a Girl!

This might have been the saddest thing I've ever seen.  I tried to create a story in my head that would make this not sad and it didn't work.

My Toilets Are Clean, Just Like a Green River

The other day while cleaning my toilet... yes although it might appear that I live a life of leisure in this blog, I clean toilets. I cracked open a new bottle of toilet cleaning stuff only to discover the worst branding name in the history of commercialization.
I'm not sure if "Green River" is really the scent I want my toilet to take on.  For the most part when I've come in contact with "Green Rivers" in the past the smell that comes off of them is something that would keep me away.

Burnt Out Bike... a Poem

Burnt out bike how did you get this way?
You started out nice, now it's just dismay.
Did you burn because your engine caught fire?
Or did you burn because you raised someone's ire?
Burnt out bike what colour did you start?
I tried to look beyond the charcoaly part.
Burnt out bike your tires are flat,
And you're old owner now has a fiat.

Signs I Like

In this segment I'm looking at some of the great graffiti I found in Corfu.
I found these cameras all over the place, not too many real cameras though.
Greatest addition to a stencil ever.

The Stages of Fitting In

When you move someplace new you find that you have to go through stages of fitting in.  I find that there are subtle signs to let you know that you fit in.  The first is when a tourist asks you for directions, at the very least you feel like a comfortable tourist.  Next is when a local asks you for directions, if it's in a language you don't understand it's both rewarding and confusing.  I'll be honest, I've never really thought about any stages after these two.  I figured this was as good as it gets, but I was wrong.  The other day a recruiter from the Communist Party came up to me on the street and asked if I wanted to attend a rally.  I feel more Greek than I ever have before.

Blurry Bathroom Photos

You may have noticed that many of the photos from the "Bathrooms I've Been To" map are really blurry.  I can assure you it has very little to do with my skills as a photographer, it has more to do with the very short time I have to take most photographs in public bathrooms without anyone else in the room with me.  I have a very strict policy of not taking pictures unless I know I'm completely alone and there is no chance of accidentally getting someone in shot.  The only exception to this rule is if the bathroom is very busy and I attempt to get a shot of the sign on the outside.  Even then I'm nervous about taking the picture and I try to keep people out of the shot as much as possible.  I have on a few occasions been taking the photo and just as I was finished, someone walked in. I've never been "caught", but had a few close calls.  So as you can imagine, if the risk of someone coming in is a little higher I take the photo as quickly as possible, and that can lead to blurry shots.

Tic Toc

Tic Toc goes the bunnies crotch,
Time to go to school.
Tic Toc goes the bunnies crotch,
Watch his swinging tool.
Tic Toc goes the bunnies crotch,
The carrot is really rude.
Tic Toc goes the bunnies crotch,
Though I've never seen a bunny nude.
Tic Toc goes the bunnies crotch.

If you ever needed proof that pigeons are jerks than just look at the following photograph.
Even if you don't think pigeons are jerks, I'm sure this turtle does.

Signs I Like

I don't think it's the sign I like so much as the way they spelled "Shoes".
This is the sign in my elevator with information on whom to contact in an emergency.  Good thing I keep a fax machine with me, just in case.
This one only makes sense to people that can read Greek.  See the letters kpis spell Chris.  So this is like my bread.  I actually eat it all the time, not because it tastes much better, but because I have a huge ego problem.

Shower Thingy

On a recent trip I found a great collection of stuff in my shower at the hotel.
Each one told me that it would come with "compliments", but I never found them.  A simple "you look good today" or "nice hair" would have been fine.
I also found that this shower cup didn't fit very well at all.
