Signs I Like

According to this poster it has now become fashionable to sustain a neck injury.
I'm not really sure how Mac Cosmetics and Wonder Woman got together, but they sure know how to dress a window.
The most disturbing part of this truck advertisement is the looks on some of the people.  I wonder what it's trying to sell?  My guess is healthy lifestyles, my hope is some wacky theatrical show.

Strange Pole

While walking through the Athens of Kefesia you might notice some strange street art.  The thing about this strange art is at least you're certain it's art.  Sure it may spin and it may be random colours, but there's no question.
There was however one thing that I could not explain, this really tall green pole.  I can't tell if it's some kind of street art thing or if it's some kind of public utility.  It has several buttons on it, a speaker of some sort, and a hatch that may or may not open.  The signs on it are vague at best.  If it's art then I guess the idea is to confuse, if it's a public utility my guess is that it's some kind of garbage can, that will launch whatever you throw in it into the sky in a giant flaming ball.

Falling Rocks

Allison and I came across a really un-nerving piece of art the other day in one of the Athens subways.  It's a collection of large chunks of rock and glass suspended above a place where people walk a lot.
The wires look really thin, and I'm thinking that this is the worst place anybody could possibly stand during an earthquake.

Special Olympic Blog

I just wanted to announce a little side project that I'm working on right now.  After offering my services to the upcoming Special Olympics happening here in Athens this summer, Team Canada asked me if I would be willing to be the official travel blogger for all of the athletes, families, and fans of Team Canada.  I was thrilled at the opportunity and the first installment of the blog has gone online.  Most of all I look forward to cheering on Team Canada here in Athens at the games this summer.

No Photos Allowed

So for this bathroom I found myself in a dilemma.  I took this picture in the Acropolis Museum.  In this museum you are not allowed to take photographs.  In most bathrooms you probably shouldn't take photographs.  But I take photographs in bathrooms, so I figured I could ignore the other rule too.

Something Cool and A Mystery in One Bathroom

While staying at a hotel in Corfu our bathroom contained one mysterious thing and one really cool thing.  The cool thing could be found on this plug.
I love this little cartoon man shaving, he makes me want to get an electric shaver just so I can be as happy as him.
The mystery came from this light switch looking thing with a pull string.  Allison told me that it was a distress alarm and would tell the front desk people that I needed help.  My biggest questions is why is it closer to the toilet than the shower?

Signs I Like

I love this corner store with a whole Egyptian themed front.  I particularly like the 3D camel.
Wall fish are cute.
There's a neighborhood in Athens that has sketches like this on every storefront that is out of business.  I think this type of art should be encouraged, and I even think it might help rent out these places.
All around Athens they have various stumps and polls to keep drivers from hopping the curb (says a little about Athens drivers).  This one made me smile and it kept me safe.

Leaping Lizzards... A Poem

When I walk in the grass I get such a fright,
It could be day, or it could be night.
Small little reptiles leaping up high,
I try to be brave, really I try.
But I always worry that they may nip,
At my finger, nose, or my lip.
When I see them, I let out a scream,
Leaping lizards, are a terrifying thing.

Dog Bite

The other day I was bit by a little puppy, it didn't hurt too much but I thought I'd show you anyways.  Although the bite was un-nerving, the realization that my thumb up close is truly ugly is even more.

Some Photo Project Works in Progress

Once it's framed I think it'll look pretty cool.  Not sure if I want to cut off the top of the head or not.
Again, once it's framed I think it'll look really cool.  I also have to make sure it's lit well.

Bird Leg Lamppost

When you put the words "Bird Leg Lamppost" together it pretty much sounds like gibberish.  If you tried to explain to someone that you actually saw one, they might think you're mad.
But I did see one, and I'm only a little mad.

The arcade game in the poster is "Space Invaders".
If you're going to break stuff, do it in a suit.
Yup, I posted this.
The story behind this fuzzy photograph of a girl posing for a tattoo place's advertisement in a slutty pirates outfit is worth more than any treasure available.

Kumquats?

In Corfu Greece they're famous for many things.  Great beaches, ancient architecture, not having been taken over by the Ottoman Empire, but most of all they seem to be famous for finding many uses for Kumquats.  They have jams, candies, preserves, and even a special liquor made from these little citrus gems.  Best of all they don't seem to have any limits on the way they can bottle this liquor.  This globe style bottle would look great on any desk.
Or how about this sexy ladies shoe with the silhouette of the island, who wouldn't want that?
This slightly blurry picture is of a really sexy bottle featuring a lady posing all seductive like.
And....  Well if you've ever wanted to drink citrus liquor from a bottle shaped like a well endowed Greek god, they've got you covered.

Tumblr Photos

I've decided that I'm going to start a new photo blog on Tumblr.  The blog will simply be a collection of the photos I've taken, some will graduate and be posted on bewarethecheese.com other will live their lives on Tumblr.
All of them are available as prints, greeting cards, or posters, you just have to e-mail me.

Here's the new site.

This Should Help Me Sleep At Night

Have you ever had a hotel room that for some reason made you feel uneasy?  It could be the colour of the walls, the feeling of the bed, the fact that the drapes don't close all the way...
Or it could be the creepy painting of the deer on the wall that looks like it's about to get hit by a car.  Hmmm... it's probably the last thing.

Signs I Like

A better offer there has never been.
I took this photo near the border of Turkish and Greek Cyprus.  All over the place there is graffiti calling for the take down of the border between the two states.  This underwear store has decided to get speak their mind on the issue as well.
I'm sure the folks at Hanna-Barbera have been properly compensated.

The Word "Blue"

Photo from bewarethecheese.com
For the sake of this blog I'm going to spell the word "blue" or "blew", "blou".  I'm only doing this because I recently gave some thought into the many words we use that sound the same as "blue", "blew", or any other similar sounding but different spellings of this word.
Photo from bewarethecheese.com
The words that sound like "blou" have such a huge range of meanings and I can't really figure out how they go together.  In many cases it appears to have some kind of relation to pressure, such as: he blou his top, or blou up a balloon.  But then we can add more meanings to the mix, like the color blou, and how some people like their meat. You can also say that a comic's material is blou.  Does that come from the meat reference, meaning it's raw?
Photo from bewarethecheese.com
The point I'm trying to make is next time you complain that someone else's language sounds confusing and is hard to learn, just remember the word "blou"
