Ted x Fun Times
The other night Allison and I went to the Ted x Athens lecture.
It was pretty cool and we heard some awesome people speak. We also got to see so many other cool things that happen all around the lecture. Check out the giant paper airplane.
They also had an electric car that was way too small to carry my groceries.
Everywhere you sat things were just a little bit strange. For example, all of the chairs were in fact mattresses stacked up. That's because one of the sponsors was a mattress company. You could tell there was lots of companies supporting the Ted X lecture, and best of all we got all kinds of free swag:
Like this cool tote bag... that was really handy to hold all the swag I got.
I got an official Ted x book, I'm going to use this to impress my intellectual friends. I'll put it prominently on my shelf so those in the know will see it and know I've been to a cool event.
I got a bunch of flyers and pieces of paper, I'm not sure what I'll do with them. Most likely I'll use the Coca-Cola one as a bookmark.
I got a poster with exactly 11 motivational sayings.
Some snacks and cooking ingredients.
Some mints because obviously my breath stinks.
I even got some seeds to plant, take care of for the first few months, forget about, and eventually kill.
I got a cool name tag that reminds me of my name, and of the fact that went to the lecture. Both valuable pieces of information.
I got this envelope promoting a smart phone social network. Since I don't have a smart phone I'll just play with the stickers that came with it.
Finally I got some new slippers, it's as if they knew my old ones were wearing out. I'm wearing my new slippers right now and they're very comfortable.

My Totem Pole
A few weeks back I started a project called the Totem Pole In Attica. It's real time documentation on the restoration of a Canadian totem pole here in Greece. It's been a really cool adventure so far, and it inspired me to create a fun little sketch. I present, what my totem pole might look like. You'll notice my first sketch on the right, but this latest version is pretty cool in my book. On top is a monkey eating chocolate, below him is a gummy bear, next is an elephant taking a photograph, and finally a slug holding everybody up.

Don't Park Your Bike There
I used to believe that in Athens, parking laws weren't really enforced. That was until I saw them pulling motor cycles off the street with a giant crane.

Last Weeks New Piece
Last week at our art show in the Finnish Institute at Athens we premiered a brand new piece called Between Slices. It's a great collection of things you might find spread between two slices of bread. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, and I'm thinking more food related pieces will be coming in the future.

Last Nights Art Show... And It's Continuation!
For the first time I unveiled a new piece that had never before been seen anywhere.
It's called "Between Slices", and I'm really happy with the response it got at the show.
Best of all, the folks at the Finnish Institute were so happy with the show that they asked me if I would keep some of the pieces on display in their library for a while longer. Considering how beautiful their establishment is, I couldn't refuse. So much of the work will remain on display for two more weeks at the Finnish Institute at Athens in their library. The Institutes hours are from 9 am to 2 pm (however they often stay open later, call them to make sure) weekdays. Thanks to everybody who came, and especially to the Finnish Institute for hosting.

Signs I Like
I wonder if Bon Jovi would like this image?
I don't understand this T-shirt at all.
It's a new game, it's called, what kind of business can get away with this sign?
This is probably the most complicated math formula ever.

Why aren't you? It's pretty funny and it has the word "fiasco" in the title, that really should be enough for you.

I think this store has commitment issues.
Is this a sign for A: lingerie, B: makeup, or C: a teacup? The answer will surprise you.
I love the improper use of the plural.

A Poem About A Door
Hello awkward door, what's that you said?
When people walk in you, they bash in their head.
Is it because your half way, in the ground?
Do you make people let out a great moaning sound?
It's not your fault, because, it could be the street.
It's much too tall, at least 3 or 4 feet.
Sad green door, low down, the girls they all cried.
Sad green door, low down, what is there inside?

Someone Always Has It Worse Than You
I had a bad day the other day. I was walking to the market to pick up some eggs. I was feeling really good about myself at the time because I was getting things done, and people seemed to be generally happy with my performance as of late. I was halfway to the market and I slipped on a curb, hurt my food (enough for a limp but nothing else), and destroyed my sandal. I was a good 20 minute walk from home with no public transportation option available. I then limped home in a broken sandal along the twisted and uneven streets of Athens. I felt pretty crappy at that point. I felt like the world wanted to be sure that I wasn't happy at all, and that I couldn't relax and enjoy my day ever. Then I turned a corner and came across this (the photo above), surely someone had a crappier day than me.

My Top Secret Project... Revealed!
Back in January I was asked to shoot some photos of Chief Tony Hunt's visit to Athens. Chief Hunt is an aboriginal artist who carved a totem pole more than 30 years ago. This totem pole somehow (I'll explain more later) made it into the hands of the Canadian Embassy in Athens, however by this point Chief Hunt had no idea where it was. So I was lucky enough to shoot Chief Hunt returning to his totem pole here in Athens. Fast forward to about two weeks ago...
A restoration project has been created in order to return the totem pole back to its former glory (the Mediterranean sun is hell on Canadian wood). I've been asked if I would follow the totem pole and document it through every phase of its restoration. I'll be posting my photos and findings to a blog, Facebook page, Twitter account, and Youtube channel. So far it's been a really fun project and it's only beginning.
Feel free to check out more on this project on the official blog.
