Signs I Like

I just love the word "Spartiaton".
Naked men sitting on barrels always makes me think of fine drinks and tasty food.
Whenever I see these signs for tunnels I always worry that a coyote is close by.

Art I'm Working On - More Stencils

I just finished two more stencil pieces for my latest photography project.  The first of these is the piece with the garbage can with the tentacles coming out.  The idea is to take a 4x6 photograph and stencil something onto it.  In many cases I think the addition will be some kind of monster, but I think the kite above is one of the exceptions.
I hope to have about a dozen of these finished and then I think I might start selling them as hand made greeting cards.

Strange Scene

I can't tell you why this picture is weird, but it is.  Individually each element is completely normal in a city environment.  Maybe it's the fact that they're all together, maybe it's how they're arranged.  It just makes me uneasy.

Art I'm Working On - Stencil Monsters

I've just started a new little photo/mixed media series.  I think I'll make it part of the Senses series since it's inspired from a piece I did a while ago called "Monster".  Basically I take a photograph of an average scene or object.
Then I work out a little sketch of a monster that fits into the scene.
Then I make a little stencil of my sketch.
Finally I stencil the sketch onto the 4x6 print.  I figure I can make multiple copies of these and maybe even sell them (for a cheap price online).  I've got a few more photos that I'm working on, and once I finish them I'll post them here.  Once I get enough for a small series, maybe I'll start selling them.  Unless you're interested in this one, in which case, let me know and I'll make sure you get a copy ASAP.

Others have been in pretty famous places.

Art I'm Working On - Finishing Up The Watercolour

I'm just about ready to rip this watercolour sketch.  I'm not sure where, or how I'm going to rip it yet.  It always makes me nervous to rip these pieces, but I guess I can't really rip it wrong.

Art I'm Working On - Slices Vernissage Last Weekend

Last weekend marked me officially finishing the art pieces now called "Spreads on Slices".  To celebrate this piece I decided to have a real vernissage.  Most people assume that a vernissage is just an opening for an art show, but really it used to be the celebration of applying the last layer of varnish to a piece.  I didn't want this to be a big party, but instead I wanted to thank a few people who really helped me finish this piece.  In fact I invited them over and let them apply the last layer of varnish. Eric, Justin, and Brigitte, seemed to have a pretty good time, and they did a great job at giving this piece one last coat.
As an additional bonus, for the vernissage I decided to put out some of the spreads that I used on the piece so they could sample them.  We had 16 of the 44 spreads out for tasting, and it really was a nice addition to the event.
You may have noticed that I haven't posted a picture of the finished piece.  Well I've decided to wait until it's inaugural showing later this year before I show it to the world... or at least the 4 or 5 people who read this blog.

Re-Organizing A Lot

I've been spending the last few weeks re-organizing bewarethecheese.com.  The first part of my plan is complete, and the places section of the site is much more streamlined with a few prints being discontinued.
Next I work on the Candy section, as well as ad a new section called "Food".

Random Ancient Stuff

One of the great things about Greece is the random ancient stuff one comes across all of the time.  Take for example the modern Olympic park built in 2004.  It's a treasure trove of modern architecture, but look 30 feet to your left and...
There are random ancient pillars.  No plaque, no explanation, just random ancient pillars with little fences around them.

Latest Watercolour Piece

As I wrap up some of my larger pieces, I've decided to start up a From Stone water colour piece.  These pieces are nice to work on after the technically complex problems that come up with some of the Senses pieces.

Art I'm Working On - Slices Piece Gets a Final Boost

After months of searching for 44 different items one can spread on bread, thanks to my friends Brigitte, Eric and Justin, I finally have the last few spreads I need to finish the slices project I'm working on.  There's still a lot of work to do on this piece, but the big hurtle of trying to come up with, and find, all of these spreads is done.  I've decided, as a bonus, I'm going to post blogs about each and every spread I used on the Candy Critic blog, after I've finished this piece.

You can read more about this art project here.

Ideas I've Had That Ended Up Not Working Out - Dear Younger Me

Whenever I surf the internet, I find cute heartwarming stories and ideas that make me smile.  Then one day I thought about writing little notes to myself, as a younger child, as if I could send them back in time.  I thought it would be both cute and heartwarming.  I'll be honest, the advice I give would have probably saved me a lot of heartache.  However I haven't thought of a new warning or note for myself in a while, at least any that don't involve not climbing a fence into a particular heard of cows, or not drinking that really old can of rootbeer.

You can see the old entries here.
